Dorothy Mae Evans, 86, formerly of Andover Street in Wilkes-Barre, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on March 8, 2018, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.


Born in Wilkes-Barre on December 18, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Robert R. and Minnie Davis Maharty. She attended E.L. Meyers High School. Dorothy was employed at the W-B Kmart in the ladies wear dept. and cash office.


Dorothy was presently a member of the Nebo Baptist Church, Nanticoke,

Throughout her lifetime, she had served as Sunday school teacher, deaconess, and church treasurer.


She was also active in Daughters of America, Rainbow Seniors, and Lucky Pal Club.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Wassil Evans, in 2016; and by brothers, Robert Maharty and William Maharty; sisters, Mildred Eckenrode and Eleanor Scott.


Surviving are her children, Luanne Evans, Nanticoke, Doreen Nobel and her husband Gary, Sugarloaf, Denise Evans, Sugarloaf, and David W. Evans, Gordon; brother, Donald Maharty and his wife Lois, Williamsburg, VA; numerous nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 A.M. from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with Rev. Timothy G. Hall officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Hanover Township.


Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 P.M.


The family would like to thank Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center staff for all the love and care shown to their parents.
