Lenore Yourren Dougherty
February 8, 2018
Lenore Yourren Dougherty, 68, of Hanover Township, died Wednesday, February 8, 2018, with family by her side. She was the wife of Joseph Dougherty.
Born to Robert and Eleanore Yourren on February 25, 1949, Lenore was a graduate of St. Leo’s in Ashley, where she was captain of the cheerleading squad and met her husband, Joe. They married in 1972 and shared forty-five years of marriage together.
Early in her career, Lenore worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Joseph Bobeck. She moved to Texas for a brief period of time, where her husband was stationed in the military. Upon their return to Pennsylvania, Lenore and Joe had two sons, and Lenore spent several years as a stay at home mother. In the mid-eighties, Lenore and her family moved to Stroudsburg, where Lenore worked for the American Red Cross, performing administrative activities, organizing blood drives, and providing disaster relief assistance for the local community. In retirement, she moved back to Wilkes-Barre with her husband, enjoying her time creating arts & crafts, antiquing, reading, spoiling her two grandchildren, and remembering special occasions of friends and family with cards containing her beautiful cursive handwriting. An incredibly strong and determined woman, Lenore heroically battled years of severe chronic pain, refusing to let it slow her down. May she finally rest in peace.
Lenore was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eleanore, her brother, Robert Yourren, and her sister Michelle Urban. She is survived by her devoted husband, Joe; her adoring children Christopher, and Ryan and his wife Tanya; her cherished grandchildren Sean and William; and her loving sister Mary Beth Yourren.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of Geisinger’s Medical/Surgical 5 West unit for their kindness and compassion towards Lenore and her family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 10, 2018, at 9:30 A.M. from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in St. Leo’s/Holy Rosary Church, 33 Manhattan Street Ashley. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
