Alfred A. Casella, 95, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
He was born in Fontecchio, Provincia D’Aquila, Italy, a son of the late Eduardo and Marianna Molina Casella. Alfred came to America from Italy on September 4, 1929 at the age of 6, settling in Wilkes-Barre. He attended Wilkes-Barre City Schools.
He was formerly employed in the local coal mines. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a machinist for many years for the American Chain & Cable Company (The Hazard). Following his retirement he worked at several jobs, including at Prestige Shoes.
Alfred was a member of the First Assembly of God, Stanton Street, Wilkes-Barre. He was also a member of the Ukrainian Club and the Moose Lodge. In his younger years he made wine and sausage with his father and his son, Edward. Alfred was an avid gardener and he loved to play the accordion and the harmonica.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Alberta Ahouse Casella in 2013. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Lilia and his sister, Lillian Zigmont and grand dog, Champ.
Surviving are his children, Edward Casella and his wife, Alice, Wilkes-Barre, Alberta Calo and her husband, Peter, Medford, NJ, Marion Drago and her husband, Anthony, Wilkes-Barre and Angela Michael and her husband, Robert, Jackson Township; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Rosemary Bellomo, Ohio; nieces and nephews.
Alfred’s children would like to thank the staff at Erwine Home Health Care and the 3rd floor staff at Little Flower Manor for the loving care that they provided.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10:30 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Rev. Sandy Piccone will officiate. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call on Thursday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
