Andrew W. Gavlick

Andrew W. Gavlick, 87, formerly of McLean Street, Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at St. Luke’s Villa, Wilkes-Barre.


Andrew was born in Ashley on November 20, 1930, a son of the late Edward and Mary Gavlick. He was a graduate of Ashley High School.  He was an Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War.  Andrew was employed as a stitcher in the local shoe factories and was later employed at Main Hardware.


He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, and prior to its closing, Holy Trinity Church, Wilkes-Barre.


Andrew was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Zakaravich Gavlick in 2012; son, Andrew Gavlick; sisters, Anne Thompson and Helen Ungvarsky; brother, Joseph Gavlick.


Surviving are his son, Robert Gavlick and his wife, Cathy, Laflin; grandchildren, Robert J. Gavlick, Michael R. Gavlick and his wife, Lauren, Andrew Gavlick III and his wife, Stephanie, and Christine Gavlick;  great grandson, Jack Gavlick; brother, Bernard Gavlick, Ashley; sister, Dolores Ruda, Ashley; numerous nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am at Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Bear Creek.


Friends may call on Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
