Antoinette (Dolly) Schmid Wilcox

Antoinette (Dolly) Schmid Wilcox. 91, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing in Wilkes-Barre.


Dolly was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Lorenzo and Anita Trivelli Schmid. She was a graduate of G.A.R. High School, Class of 1948. She was formerly employed at the Faith Shoe Company, the RCA Corp. in Mountain Top and as a nurse’s aide at the Valley Crest Nursing Home. Dolly was also an owner and operator of the family business, S&W Restaurant in Wilkes-Barre.


She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Kingston. Dolly was a choir member at St. Boniface Church and St. Ignatius Church. She was also a member of Bishop Hoban’s Parents Club and their minstrel shows and she also sang with the Sweet Adelines.  Antoinette loved country line dancing, sewing and gardening.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Wilcox, in 1991; sister, Carmella Zimmerman and brother, Joseph Schmid.


Surviving are her children: William Wilcox and his wife Elizabeth, Dallas, Donna Delaney and her husband Leo, Burke, VA, Debra Ostrowski and her husband Tom, Wilkes-Barre, Denise Opet and her husband Tom, Baldwinsville, NY, Diane Ziomek and her husband Michael, Palm Harbor, FL, Dina Zwiebel and her husband Michael, Bel Air, MD, and Danielle Opalicki and her husband Jamie, Mariette, GA; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ernest L. Schmid and his wife Judy and Gerard Schmid and his wife Rose, all of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 AM from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:15 AM at St. Ignatius Church, 399 N. Maple Ave., Kingston. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.


Friends may call from 5-8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
