Obituaries » Bernadette M. Yencha August 18, 2023 Bernadette M. Yencha August 18, 2023 Bernadette M. Yencha, 88, formerly of Reno Lane, Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Friday morning, August 18, 2023 at Allied Services Meade Street Residence, Wilkes-Barre. Bernie was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Grohol Yencha. She was a graduate of Coughlin High School, class of 1952. Bernie was employed in the accounting department of Bell Telephone of PA/ Verizon, prior to her retirement. Bernie was a former member of St. Joseph’s Slovak Church, Wilkes-Barre, and after its closure, became a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Wilkes-Barre. She had a great love of music and was the organist at St. Joseph’s Church. She was also a cantor and sang in the choir at St. Mary’s and other choirs in the area. Bernie was very active in The Slovak Heritage Society in NEPA, serving as its secretary from its beginning. She was also secretary of the FCSLA SR. BR. 172. Among her other activities were cross stitch embroidery, ceramics, and baking cookies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lucy Ann Boris; brothers, John, Joseph and Albert Yencha. Surviving are numerous loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Bernie’s family would like to thank her many doctors, medical professionals, and caregivers that assisted her throughout her life. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9 AM from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Parish at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 134 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701. Rev. Michael Boris, her great nephew, will officiate. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dallas. Friends and family may call on Tuesday from 8-9 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 134 S.
