July 15, 2022
Bernadine J. Ellis, 85, of Hanover Township, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Eugene and Virginia Gallagher Mooney. She was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School.
Bernadine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, Nana, and sister. Above all else she was the most compassionate and caring friend. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as spending time at home with her family and cooking her grandchildren Monday night meals. Her happiest memories in life included being a Nana, reading books in the evening, talking to her sisters on the phone, watching the Phillies with her husband, taking shopping trips, and eating pasta and cookies. She will be extraordinarily missed by her family.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Pachick; her brothers Eugene, Francis, Thomas, Paul, Leo, Jackie, and Vincent Mooney; her daughter-in-law, Amy Ellis.
Bernadine is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 62 years, Joseph R. Ellis. Also survived by daughter, Lee Ann Shovlin and her husband, John; sons, Joseph Ellis and his wife, Doreen and Eugene Ellis and his companion, Nataly; grandchildren, Sarah Vecerkauskas and her husband, David, Joey Ellis, Zachary Ellis, Mallory Ellis and Kelcie Shovlin; great grandson, Wyatt Vecerkauskas; sisters, Bernice Hockenbury and her husband, George and Virginia Borum. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law, Lori Ellis, and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Amy Borum.
The family would like to sincerely thank the nursing staff of the Geisinger Health system for the kindness and compassion put forward towards our Nana.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Rev. Theodore L. Obaza will officiate. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.
