Obituaries » David L. Talacka June 7, 2023 David L. Talacka June 7, 2023 David L. Talacka, 86, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday morning with his devoted wife of 65 years at his side. David was born to Peter and Agnes Talacka in Wilkes-Barre Township. After David graduated from GAR Memorial High School, he went on to service in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his service to his country, he worked at Procter & Gamble in Mehoopany as a mechanical technician, prior to his retirement. David met his wife, Theresa, in 1956 and married her just over a year later, during a wild snowstorm on January 25, 1958. David and Theresa went on to have two children, David and Stephen. At 55, David retired and dedicated much of his time to Our Lady of Hope Parish in Wilkes-Barre, where his wife also worked for over 40 years. He served as a reader, eucharistic minister, and was an adult acolyte at funerals. He was a member of the American Legion as well. David was preceded in death by both of his parents, Peter and Agnes Talacka, as well as his brothers, Raymond Talacka and Robert Talacka. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Theresa Elgonitis Talacka (Wilkes-Barre); sons, Stephen and his wife Mary Ann (Dallas) and David and his wife Karen (Hunlock Creek); his sisters, Dolores Liscosky (Wilkes-Barre) and Janet Francis (Nanticoke); granddaughters, Alyssa Talacka (Pittsburgh) and Taryn Talacka (Exeter), whom he loved dearly; and Taryn’s longtime boyfriend, Marcus Grudzinski (Exeter); nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 9:30 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming, A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday from 4-7pm at the funeral home.
