Dorothy Ciavarella, 82, of Hanover Township, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021 in the Select Specialty Hospital at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, surrounded by her loving family.
A lifelong resident of Hanover Township, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Martha Vedor Swinski. Dorothy was a 1956 graduate of Hanover Township High School. It is there that this beautiful majorette met the love of her life, her husband of 61 years, Frank J. Ciavarella Sr.
Dorothy and Frank owned and operated the Villa Lounge for many years. Her most important job was being a loving and devoted wife, mother, nana, great nana and sister.
Dorothy loved and cherished spending time with family and friends especially during the holidays. Some of the greatest memories were made watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren having fun in the pool and growing up. She also loved her Saturday nights going out to dinner with her husband, family, and friends then coming home to enjoy watching her Saturday night Polka’s. Dorothy always made everyone feel welcomed and like they were part of the family with her great smile and sincere personality. Dorothy always loved her husband, her family, her home, her friends, her church, and life. She will be deeply missed.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church in Wilkes-Barre, where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Sons of Italy Ladies Auxiliary and a member along with her dear friends of the Burger King Coffee Club.
In addition to her husband, Frank, she is survived by her children, Karen Ciavarella, Hanover Township; Gail Holby and her husband, Frank, Plains Township and Frank J. Ciavarella Jr., Hanover Township; grandchildren, Alicia Bleich, Eric Bleich and his wife, Nicole; Breanne and Korey Holby and Marina Ciavarella; great grandchildren, Abigail, Collin, Bradey, Kylah, Cayson, Braxton and soon to arrive Kaylin. She is also survived by her sisters, Connie Klug, FL and Audrey Davis, Hanover Township, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:15 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, Barney and Division Streets, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
A walk-through visitation will be held from 12 -2 pm and 4-8 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Those attending the visitation and service are required to wear a mask and abide by social distancing requirements.
