Dorothy E. “Dottie” Povilaitis

September 8, 2022

Dorothy E. “Dottie” Povilaitis, 70, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving husband, daughters, and family.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Mayer Farrell. Dottie was a graduate of St. Nicholas High School, Class of 1970. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as the office manager for the office of Dr. Vincent A. Drapiewski.

Dottie was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Wilkes-Barre. She was also a member of the Pittston Jacquelines of the Knights of Columbus Council 55 in Pittston, the Donegal Society, Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Hanover Township Notre Dame Club, and the Amvets Ladies Auxiliary.

Dottie will be remembered as a most loving wife and mother who always put her family before herself. She fell in love with a boy at the sophomore hop, married him, raising two daughters who could not  have made her more proud.  Ed and Dot truly lived out a unique love story! Her grandchildren were the sparkle in her eye as she loved to spoil them with wonderful vacations and always proudly cheering them on at sporting events. She was the rock that held her family together in good times and in bad, always taking care of her loved ones whenever they needed her without question. She was the true warrior of the family.

She was fierce, loyal, loving, generous… the type who would give ANYONE the shirt off her back. She was truly a beautiful soul who will be missed!

Dottie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Joseph & Elizabeth Farrell, and by an infant daughter.  She was also preceded by her beloved brother and best friend, Patrick Farrell; godmother, Dorothy Bradley; and uncle, Eugene Bradley.

Surviving are her husband, the love of her life, and loyal partner for 49 years, Edward Povalaitis; daughters, Betty Jo Povilaitis, Wilkes-Barre; and Gina Kyttle and her husband, Cody, Shickshinny; grandchildren, Gavin Fincke, Tristan Niemkiewicz, EJ Kyttle, and Mia Kyttle; Maxwell the dog; brother, Joseph Farrell and his wife Mary Jean, Hampton, VA; and nieces and nephews, Joseph and James Farrell; Sarah Williams and her husband, Rodney; Callie Williams and Emily Grant.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 4-7 P.M. at the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family, with interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509.
