Obituaries » Dorothy Zima January 16, 2022 Dorothy E. Zima January 16, 2022 Dorothy E. Zima, 93, formerly of the Heights Section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Sunday January 16, 2022 at Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing Center, Wilkes-Barre. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, the daughter of the late Ignatius and Helen Sisco Hyzinski. She was a graduate of Coughlin High School. Prior to retiring, Dorothy was employed as a switch board operator for Bell Telephone and the VA Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to cook and crochet. Everyone looked forward to family gatherings for her meatballs and pineapple squares. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph T. in 1990; and by her brother Bernard Hyzinski, and her sister Joan Grogan. Surviving are her daughter Carol Reilly and her husband Ronald of Wilkes-Barre and her son Joseph Zima of Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren Michael Reilly and his wife Michelle, Amy Lynn Iskra and her husband Dave; great grandchildren Matthew Craig, Liam Reilly, Ryan Iskra; nieces and nephews. Dorothy’s family would like to thank the nurses and the entire staff of Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing for the wonderful care they provided. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 A.M. from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 A.M. in St. Nicholas Church, 226 South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township, Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to the S.P.C.A. of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
