Edith Rose Swortz

Edith Rose Swortz, 95, formerly of South Wilkes-Barre, passed away at her home in Plains Township on Thursday, October 15, 2021.

 

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late William and Helen German Reh. Edith was a graduate of St. Nicholas High School in Wilkes-Barre and received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Wilkes-Barre  Vocational School of Nursing. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years at the office of Dr. Albert Danishanko in Wilkes-Barre.

 

Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Michael J. Swortz in 2001 and by her daughter-in-law, Gloria Swortz in 2021. She was also preceded in death by her brother, William Reh; and sisters, Frances Park, Isabel Skoronski and Florence Dorang.

 

Surviving are her daughter, Susan M. Baker and her husband, Carl, Plains Township, with whom she resided; son, Michael J. Swortz, Jr., Wilkes-Barre and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Edith’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10 am in St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming.

 

Friends may call from 9-10 am on Tuesday at the Church.

 

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
