Eleanor M. Kuboski, 84, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre on October 20, 1931, a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Hrimnacek Koval.Â Eleanor was a graduate of Coughlin High School, class of 1949.Â Prior to her retirement, she had been employed for many years in the local shoe and dress industries.
Eleanor was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.Â She was a longtime member of St. Josephâ€™s Slovak Church in Wilkes-Barre, prior to its closing.Â At St. Josephâ€™s Church she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and the Christian Mothers; she also volunteered her time as a pirohy maker with the church at its various functions. Â Eleanor was also a member of the Little Flower Manor Rosary Group, and she volunteered for more than 25 years at the John Heinz Rehabilitation Center in Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Martin, and her brother- in-law, Joseph Martin, and by her brothers, Andrew J. and John Koval.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Mary A. Ruth, and her husband, James, Wilkes-Barre; grandsons, Andrew Ruth and his wife, Amy, Duryea, and Michael Ruth, Exeter; and our beloved dog, Biscuit; sister, Margaret Pukatch, and her husband, Joseph, Union, NJ; brother, Joseph Koval, CA; sisters-in-law, Lynda and Betty Koval, CA; first cousin, Jan and his wife, Anna Koval, Slovakia, and their son, Martin Koval, and his wife, Majka, also of Slovakia; nieces & nephews,Â Marie Williamson and her husband, Bill, Zionsville, IN, Dotty Jensen, Syracuse, NY, Karen Quinones and her husband, Roberto, VA, Jan Pukatch, FL, Joe Pukatch, Union, NJ, Gary Pukatch and his wife, Julia, NC, and their children, Luke and Ava.
As Eleanor’s daughter and family, we would like to send out very special thanks to the following: Dr. Michael Grasso, her family doctor, for always taking very good care of Eleanor over the years; thank you, Doctor, and Dee, and office staff for always helping us with anything we needed.
We would also like to thank the oncology office of Dr. David Greenwald, who has been taking care of my mom for the past 32 years; Doctor, you saved her from ovarian cancer and she was able to walk me down the aisle on my wedding day in 1986.Â To all the wonderful staff of this office for being so good to my mom, offering smiles and help; friendships were made over those years.
To everyone at John Heinz Rehab, where my mom volunteered for more than 25 years, in so many capacities, such as transporting, kitchen staffing, selling raffle tickets, and, up to July of this year, managing the front information desk: thank you so much!Â I know my mom made many friends everywhere she went.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday morning at 9 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.Â Interment will be in St. Maryâ€™s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call on Monday from 5 â€“ 8 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eleanorâ€™s memory to the Little Flower Manor, 200 South Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA.
