Evelyn Kaczmarek, 88, of Mountain Top, passed away Monday, December 19, 2022.

Evelyn was born on September 14, 1934, in Wilkes-Barre. She was the daughter of the late Stanley Casper and Mary Boris Casper. She is a 1952 graduate of Meyers High School.

Evelyn worked for the Social Security Administration for 25 years prior to her retirement.

Evelyn enjoyed many years of polka dancing with her husband Edmund. She loved playing bingo with all her friends at Wright Manor and enjoyed all the events at the Mountain Top Social Club. She was a Hallmark Channel fanatic. She loved listening to Elvis and Bobby Vinton, as well as traveling and spending time with her beloved family. Evelyn was a fashionista who was always “dressed to the nines” no matter what the occasion. She enjoyed floating with her family in her daughter’s pool in the summer.

Evelyn was married to the love of her life, Edmund, for 64 years before his passing in August 2019.

Evelyn is a member of St. Jude’s Church in Mountain Top.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Edmund.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Barry of Wilkes-Barre, and her husband Charles; Marlene Burkhardt of State College, and her husband Russell; and Janelle Kaczmarek of Exeter. She was very proud of her four grandchildren, Brian Barry and his wife Shani; Brad Barry and his wife Michal Lynn; Russ Burkhardt; and Sara Pugh and her husband Brian.

Evelyn was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, and will be greatly missed.

The family of Evelyn wishes to express special thanks for all the heartfelt care and support she received from Dr. Meyers, Sharon and her staff. Also, a big thank you for the care she received from the nursing staff and doctors during her short stay in the Geisinger ICU.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am in St. Jude Church, 420 South Mountain Blvd., Route 309, Mountain Top.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
