Florence B. Brice, 97, of Ashley, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away at home on February 17, 2018.


Florence was born in Wilkes-Barre on September 10, 1920, the daughter of the late Martin and Mary Pryzbeck Skwirut. She attended G.A.R. Memorial High School. Florence worked for Alan Industries in the local garment industry, and she also worked in maintenance at United Penn Bank and at the Hourigan Kluger and Quinn law firm, where she received a 20 Year Award for her service.


She was a member of St. Leo’s/Holy Rosary Church in Ashley. The most important thing in Florence’s life was her family. She loved her weekly calls from her children and grandchildren.


Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Edward “Pudgy” Brice in 1997; grandson, Brian Dougherty, in 2011; daughter-in-law, Patricia Brice, and by 8 siblings.


She is survived by her children, Patricia Dougherty Frodsham, and her husband, Robert, Ashley and Ocala, FL, Maureen Whalen and her husband, Richard, Schnecksville, Edward Brice, Jacksonville, FL; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.


The family would like to thank the staff of Associated Family Services and her aids, Kathy Baloga and especially, Karen Kotich, who Florence loved dearly and was an adopted as a member of the family, and a special thanks to her loving and devoted grandson, Michael Dougherty, who was her caregiver and constant companion.


A memorial mass will be held on a later date at the convenience of the family. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.


Funeral arrangements are through the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.
