Florence M. Shubilla

Florence M. Shubilla, 95, of Kingston, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, in the Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre.


She was born in Wilkes-Barre Township on March 7, 1921, a daughter of the late Hipolite and Caroline Kobylski Bomber.  Florence was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School, class of 1939 and she attended the Wilkes-Barre Business College.


During World War II she was employed by the Bureau of Mines in Washington D.C. and she was later employed for many years as a customer service representative for PNC Bank, retiring in 1986.


Florence was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Wilkes-Barre.  She was also a member of the Madame Curie Society; she served on the Board of Directors of the Bergman Foundation and volunteered at Allied Services.


Florence loved cooking, baking and sewing for her family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Walter F. Shubilla in 2003.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers, John, Edmund, Joseph, Frank, Chester and Alex and by her sisters, Emma and Irene.


Surviving are her sons, Walter Shubilla, Plains Township, Thomas Shubilla and his wife, Beth, Kingston, John Shubilla, Peters Township, PA; grandchildren, Thomas Shubilla, James Shubilla, Amy Shubilla, Jill Shubilla and Andrea Munster; great grandchildren, Leah and Jordan Shubilla and Brady and Avery Munster; numerous nieces and nephews.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday morning at 9 am in the Chapel of Little Flower Manor, 200 South Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming.  Family and friends attending the Mass are asked to go directly to Little Flower Manor on Thursday.


Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5 – 7 pm at the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.
