Hedwig (Hedy) McGraw

Hedwig (Hedy) McGraw, 86, formerly of, Shavertown, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Tiffany Court at Kingston, Saturday, April 15th, where she called home for the past 3 years, most recently under Hospice care.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Henry and Hedwig Whilham Stegmueller.  Hedwig was a graduate of St. Nicholas High School.  Prior to her retirement she had been employed at the Bell Telephone Company.  Hedwig also worked as a nurse for many years, including private duty and Hospice care.    Hedwig was a former member of St. Therese Church in Shavertown.

Hedy had a great love for playing cards with her card club group with seasonal trips to New York City and enjoyed watching each other’s families grow up.  She enjoyed family camping and fishing trips, cross country trips and visiting many different countries with her late husband, Joseph.  She took many trips and cruises with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Joseph P. McGraw, Sr., brothers, George Stegmueller, Henry Stegmueller Jr. and Frederick Stegmueller; sisters, Anna Stegmueller and Hilda Geffert.

Surviving are her son, Joseph Patrick McGraw, M.D., and wife Michele Kowalski-McGraw, M.D., California; daughter Michelle and her husband, Joseph Tomaselli of Trucksville, and sister-in-law Catherine and husband Michael Salko, Wilkes-Barre.

Hedy loved her 5 grandchildren Michael McGraw, Ph.D., California, Daniel McGraw, M.D. and fiance’ Carly Murphy, Florida, Meghan McGraw and boyfriend Dylan Jolle, Philadelphia, Amanda and husband Captain Elias Tohme, M.D., South Dakota and Elaina Tomaselli, Pittston and boyfriend Ryan Duddy.  She also has many nieces and nephews.  She was overjoyed and proudest be had become a great-grandmother and “nana-nono” to Joseph Elias Tohme.  The joy he brought into her life was unmeasurable.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Residential Hospice.

Her family wishes to thank the staff at Tiffany Court at Kingston for making her home away from home fun, safe and allowing her to be as independent as possible.  The Ageility Rehab and Fitness Group played an important role with her physical and occupational needs and Residential Hospice for their compassionate care.

A Memorial service will be held for Hedy at a future date.
