Obituaries » Henrietta "Etta" Thier September 9, 2022 Henrietta “Etta” Thier September 9, 2022 Henrietta “Etta” Thier, 96, of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away early Friday morning at her home, surrounded by her loving daughter and son-in-law. Etta was born in Wilkes-Barre Township, a daughter of the late Michael and Bella Dembiec Hendricks. She was a 1943 graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School. She loved her hometown and was involved in many activities in her community, including the Wilkes-Barre Township Settlement Camp Committee, the Wilkes-Barre Township American Legion Post 815, Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas party, and the parade committee. Etta was a member of the Wilkes-Barre Township Senior Citizens’ Club, past secretary of the volunteer ambulance association, volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in the Activities Department, and a 50 year plus member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 815. For many years she was treasurer for the Wilkes-Barre Township Republicans and was recently given a retirement party by the committee. She was also a poll worker on the Election Board for many years. Etta had a wide circle of friends. She loved parties and being around people. She enjoyed listening to music, travelling and going to the casino. Prior to her retirement, she was employed in the local garment industry. Etta was preceded in death by her husband, George, on April 20, 2000; her siblings, Helen (Tootsie) Hoffman, Louise (Pat) Bilahorka, Edward Hendricks, Theresa Fennick, Leonard Hendricks and Elaine Myers. Surviving is her daughter, Debby Weaver and her husband, Eric, with whom she resided, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 4:30 PM from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Rev. J. Duane Gavitt will officiate. Private interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Monday from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM at the funeral home.
