Irene Matilda Unice Ritza, 99, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Irene was born in Wilkes-Barre on March 14, 1919, a daughter of the late William and Amelia (Minni) Unice. She was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, Class of 1935. She received her nursing degree from Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing. Irene began her career working at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Upon moving back to Wilkes-Barre, she worked at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for many years in the Med Surge unit.
She was also a stay at home mom raising her two daughters Millie and Marilynn. Irene was an avid reader, superb speller, and card player. She had a special love for animals, especially her buddy Tyson. She loved traveling with her devoted husband, Anthony Ritza. They loved spending time at the beach with their family, trips to Florida, and residing in their summer cottage in Bear Creek.
Prior to its closing, Irene was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Wilkes-Barre. She later became a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish in Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Senior Citizens Club of St. Nicholas Church in Wilkes-Barre.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Ritza, daughter, Mildred Pashinski, and son-in-law, Angelo Falcone. She was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are her daughter Marilynn Falcone, Wilkes-Barre; son-in-law Eddie Day Pashinski, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Tina Falcone-Najera, Tony Falcone and his wife Katie, all of Wilkes-Barre, Keith Falcone and his wife Jennifer, NJ, Amy Fetterman and husband Chuck, Mandy Costello and her husband Brian, and David Pashinski, all of Mountain Top, Lori Miller and her husband Jack, Bear Creek. Irene is also survived by her twelve great grandchildren: Angelo, Jaidyn, Kaycie, Danny, Charlotte, Julia, JT, Breanne, Brett, Brady, Brian Anthony, and Mia. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
