Jacqueline R. Smith, 82, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on August 11, 2021 while residing at River Run Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Kingston.  Born Jacqueline Ruth Jenkins in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Miller and Walter Jenkins.  Jackie attended James M. Coughlin High School prior to entering the workforce at Prestige Shoe Factory.  She resided for over forty years in the East End Section of Wilkes-Barre, where she raised her only son, Jamie.  She was employed for many years as a nursing assistant at Wesley Village in Jenkins Township, and retired from the dietary department of the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center.  Jackie was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served as past president of Post #6227, Parsons, Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers John Jenkins, David Jenkins and Walter Jenkins; sisters Audrey Costa Parks, Lola Schiel, Maude Jenkins, Ann Kosko, Margaret Oley Jedrick, and Jean Polifko.    She is survived by her son James and his wife Yolanda (Mini) of Bear Creek Township; grandchildren Nicholas Smith and Samantha Smith; sisters-in-law Eugenia (Cookie) Jenkins and Frances Jenkins.  Jackie’s family would like to thank the staff and residents of River Run for their commitment to her care over the past two years.  A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family, and Jackie will be laid to rest beside her parents and siblings at Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton.  Donations in her memory can be made to the Bear Creek Foundation, 47 Charter School Way, Bear Creek Township, PA  18702.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Nat and Gawlas Funeral Home.
