James J. Kellar

James J. Kellar, 75, of Plains, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018, at the Milton Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA.

 

Jim was born in Wilkes-Barre, the son of the late Joseph and Frieda Mazur Kellar. He was a graduate of Meyers High School and attended West Side Area Vocational Technical School. Jim was an Army Veteran, serving from 1960- 1963. He was formerly employed by Air Products, Inc.

 

Jim was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, where he served as an usher and a volunteer with the church’s annual bazaar. He was also a member of the St. Nicholas/St. Mary’s School Sports Club. Jim served as an assistant scout master for St. Nicholas Boy Scout Troop 43 and for the Order of the Arrow. He was also a member of the Wyoming Valley and the Wilkes-Barre Coin Clubs and  was an avid collector.

 

Jim will be sadly missed by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Burns Kellar; daughter Christine (Tina) Kellar, Plains; brothers-in-law Richard Burns and his wife, Susan, Plains and Donald Burns; nephew and godson David Burns; nephews John Burns, William Burns, Brian Burns, Mark Burns, and Sean Burns; great nieces and great nephews.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 9:30 AM from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be concelebrated by Msgr. Patrick Pratico and Fr. Joseph Verespy at 10 AM in St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre.

 

Interment will be in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, Shavertown.

 

Friends may call on Thursday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
