McHugh June 5, 2023 John D. “Jack” McHugh June 5, 2023 John D. “Jack” McHugh, 65, of Centermoreland Township, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Henry Tarasek and Rosemarie Bowanko Tarasek. Jack was a 1975 graduate of Coughlin High School. He was a union carpenter, having worked for many years with Panzitta Enterprise. Jack’s passion in life was cars. He loved to restore classic cars, especially Corvettes. He is survived by his wife, friend and companion of 37 years, Rita M. Heness McHugh; daughters, Danielle McHugh Simko and her husband, Stephen, Laflin, Denise McHugh DeMellier and her husband, Daniel, Wilkes-Barre, Nicole M. Smith and her husband, Eugene, Centermoreland, Gregory G. Shaffer, Wilkes-Barre and Nia Lowe-Shaffer, at home; grandchildren, Robbie McHugh, Stephen Simko and Grace Simko, Julia and Caden Demellier, Callen Smith and Stella Shaffer; great grandchildren, Hazel and Rhys McHugh. A Celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 6 pm at the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Jack’ s family would like to thank Krysten and Dan from Revolutionary Hospice for their compassionate care the staff of Dr. Greenwald’s office, especially, Angela. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
