John J. Mergo Jr, 68, of Ashley passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at home after a short illness surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Jack loved spending time with his wife and dogs. He loved going on cruises, Jimmy Buffet concerts, the New York Yankees and Notre Dame. Jack was a happy go lucky guy who had a quick wit with an Uncle Jack look and comment for everyone.

He was a member of St. Leo’s/ Holy Rosary Church, Ashley. He loved working the church bazaar, especially the potato pancake stand.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his loving wife of 42 years and best friend, Susan; his faithful companions, Wrink Lee and Near Lee; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Lewis, Ashley; sister, Mary Beth Mergo, Ashley; nieces, Jennifer “Cookie” Goyne and her husband, Kyle, Amy Musial and her husband, Jamie, and Lauren Aregood; nephew, Mike Mergo; great nieces Amelia and Emma; great nephew, Thomas.

Jack was a loyal husband and friend. No words can describe how loved and missed he will be. The loss of Jack leaves a void in our lives that can only be filled when we are reunited. Your smile will live in our hearts forever (to the moon and back).

A special thank you to Dr. David Mouallem and Nurse Megan for the wonderful and compassionate care during his brief illness. A special thank you to nieces Jennifer and Amy; nephew, Mike Mergo and cousin, Mike Hart who stood by his side through this difficult time.
