Josephine Burgit

Josephine Burgit went to be with her beloved Jesus on August 17,2021, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the daughter of Theodore Ruddy (Rudeh) and Josphine (Kuchinskas) Ruddy and the beloved wife of James Edward Burgit. She lived most of her life in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. and later went to live with daughter, Dawn Branzuela in Hallstead, PA. six years ago.

Josephine devoted her life to her family. She was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Wilkes-Barre.

She graduated from Wilkes Barre Business College and worked for several businesses during her life.

Josephine wrote a book of poetry about life and events during her lifetime and had some of her poems published.

She loved our pets, especially Zsa Zsa and Luna, our Pekingese, who were her constant companions.

She is preceded by her parents, husband and daughter Patricia Lee Burgit and by her step children Sally Mae Dozios, James Lee Burgit, Reva Jayne Hoppel.

Josephine is survived by her daughters, Dawn Branzuela, Hallstead, PA and Lori Lynn Hughes (Scott), Greene, NY; grandchildren, Leilani Branzuela, Jolene Wilson, Seanna Grochowski (Larry), Tara Snarski (Brian), Devin Hughes (Whitney), Kenneth Hughes (Stephanie), David Hughes and great grandchildren Christopher and Connor Boyle, Harper Grochowski, Odin and Elijah Slofkosky

She is also survived by relatives in Lithuania, Vilma Gudaviciute and Martyna Skisaker and family.

She was cared for by three caregivers provided by Aveanna Healthcare over several years and she loved each one of them. Shelly Ross Albert, Maryanne Skorets and Leilani Branzuela a heartfelt thank you to you from Josie.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 pm from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Interment in the Lithuanian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming.

Friends may call on Friday from 5 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
