Lois Jean Maharty

Lois Jean Maharty, 80, of Williamsburg, VA, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, PA, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 11, 2022 in the Sentara Williamsburg Regional Center.


She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Clinton and Thelma Stevens Greenawald.  Lois was a graduate of Meyers High School, class of 1959.  She was a life-long member of the Welsh Bethel Baptist Church in Wilkes-Barre and a breast cancer survivor.  Prior to becoming a Gramma, she worked at the Bon-Ton and Woodlawn Dairy.


Lois was a loving and devoted wife and mother.  She devoted her life to her grandchildren and cherished each and every moment spent with them.  From Heights Packers to GAR football games, field hockey, soccer, softball, wrestling and cross-country, she was always present on the sidelines.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sheri Lynn Maharty.


Lois is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Donald Maharty; sons, Dr. Donald Clinton Maharty and his wife, Michelle of Fayetteville, NC and Dr. David James Maharty and his wife, Kelly of Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren, Dr. Morgan Elizabeth Maharty, Alexis Grace Maharty, Donald Joshua Maharty, Madison Lynn Maharty and Maleah Audriana Maharty.  She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Gulick, Mountain Top; and by her nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, Pastor Don Hartshorne, formerly of the Welsh Bethel Baptist Church will officiate.  Interment will be in Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Township.


Friends may call on Saturday from 10 – 11 am at the funeral home.


Memorial Donations can be made to the Welsh Bethel Baptist Church.
