Lorraine Smith Vacula

Lorraine Smith Vacula, 77, of West Pittston, formerly of Plains Township passed away early Friday morning, April 28, 2023, at River Run Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, after a brief illness.

 

Lorraine was born in Wilkes-Barre, the daughter of the late Leo and Betty Zatavekas Smith. She was a graduate of G.A.R. High School, class of 1965. Lorraine attended cosmetology school and worked as a hairdresser in Wilkes-Barre, prior to opening her own beauty shop in her home in Plains.

 

She loved watching QVC, HSN and the Food Network.

 

Preceding her in death was her second husband, Alfred Oeller Jr.

 

Surviving is her daughter, Tracie Vacula and her wife, Michelle Toman, Plains; her first husband, Thomas Vacula, Chapin, South Carolina; her beloved dog, Butchie; her grand fur kids, Duncan and Trevor; cousins, Paul Kutney, Plymouth; Gary Kutney, Wilkes-Barre; and other cousins and nieces and beloved friends.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and River Run Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, for their outstanding care and compassion.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Gerald Gurka officiating.  Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Bear Creek.

 

Friends and family may call on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Big East Akita Rescue (BEAR), 1001 Fischer Blvd., PMB 136, Toms River, NJ 08753, in memory of Teddy the Akita, who was her fearless, loyal, protector for 13 years.
