Marian Prieto Anthony, 95, of Fairfax, VA, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on August 17, 2021 at Capital Caring Health Adler Center, Aldie, VA surrounded by her loving family, who adored her.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Palko Prieto. Marian was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Class of 1944. On June 6, 1953, she married the love of her life Joseph G. Anthony. She began her career as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone. After raising four children, she returned to work as a switchboard operator and receptionist at Wyoming Valley Hospital, continuing on to a fulfilling career at Geisinger Medical Center. She loved telling everyone of her very happy and fulfilling career at Geisinger.
Marian was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wilkes-Barre. She had a deep faith in God and was devoted to the Blessed Mother.
Marian was an avid reader, reading multiple newspapers daily and books from her extensive home library. She had a natural talent for creating sewn, crocheted and painted works of art. Her ethnic cooking was savored by her family and those with whom she graciously shared meals. She loved to travel, and upon retiring, she resided with her daughters in Germany and Hawaii. She doted on her grandson and three great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy. Marian was a kind, generous soul with a loving spirit that touched the hearts of those fortunate enough to cross her life’s path.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph G. Anthony; sisters, Betty Malinowski and Theresa Prieto; and by her brothers, Manuel and Joseph Prieto.
Marian is survived by her children, Lisa Anthony Dunn and her husband Lt Col USAF retired Albert Dunn Jr. of Haymarket, VA, Joanne Anthony Hromisin and her husband Joseph of Chesapeake, VA, Judith Anthony of Fairfax, VA, and Joseph Anthony of Wilkes-Barre; grandson Christopher Dunn and his wife Andrea of Haymarket, VA; great-grandchildren Katherine, Kellan, and Mason; brother Robert Prieto; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday, August 28th from 8 -9 am at the Nat & Gawlas, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Services will begin at 9 am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish at St. Mary’s Church of the Immaculate Conception, 134 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
