Marilyn A. Lavan

Marilyn A. Lavan, 82, of Wilkes-Barre Twp., passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021.  Born in Wilkes-Barre Twp. on May 26, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Anna (Scrippens) Stavish.  Marilyn graduated from Wilkes-Barre Twp. High School. She was employed for many years in retail and retired from Sears Roebuck and Co.

Marilyn was a former member of St. Joseph’s Monastery, Wilkes-Barre Twp. and a current member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre. She loved gardening in her backyard and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Thomas F. Lavan (January 4, 2021) and her daughter Karen Lavan Bokelman (February 22, 2010).

Marilyn is survived by her son, Thomas J. Lavan and his wife, Patricia; grandson James (Jimmy) Lavan; sisters, Jeannie Frost, Janet Yatassaye and husband, Moussa; brother, Stanley Stavish and wife, Martha; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) Krutski, Mary Ann Lavan, Anna Mae Lavan and Jane Lavan.

The family would like to thank the healthcare workers from Visiting Angels and the staff at Providence Place in Drums for all the care and compassion they showed to Marilyn.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning, October 14, 2021 at 9:30 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am in St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Family and friends may call on Thursday from 8:30- 9:30 am at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn’s name to St. Mary Our Help of Christians Parish, 3529 Saint Mary’s Road, Wapwallopen, PA 18660 and/or St. Jude Parish, Church Building Fund, 420 S. Mountain Blvd, Mountain Top, PA  18707.
