Marilyn A. Gawelko Morio

March 5, 2021


Marilyn A. Gawelko Morio, 73, of Benton, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Friday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.


She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Thaddeus F. and Mary Dwojeski Gawelko.  Marilyn was a 1965 graduate of Coughlin High School and  received her associate’s degree in computer science from the Wilkes-Barre Computer Center.


Prior to her retirement, Marilyn served as manager of the Data Operations Center for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District.  She was an active and devoted member of St. Boniface Church and St. Andrew Parish in Wilkes-Barre, serving as a volunteer at all church functions and dinners.  Upon moving to Benton, she became an active member of Christ the King Church.  Marilyn was also an active member of the Delaware Valley Doberman Pinscher Assistance, Inc. in Phoenixville.


Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Morio in 1987.


She is survived by her sister, Dolores Strish, Wilkes-Barre Township and by her brother, Leonard Gawelko, Slocum Township; niece, Jennifer Gawelko and her daughter, Alaina; nephew, Matthew Gawelko; nephew, Norman Strish and his wife, Elizabeth and their children Kaelyn and Ashton.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11 am in St. Andrew Parish, 316 Parish Street, Wilkes-Barre.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.


Friends may call at the church from 10 – 11 am on Thursday.


Those attending the visitation and service are required to wear a mask and abide by social distancing requirements.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn’s memory to the Delaware Valley Doberman Pinscher Assistance, Inc., 357 Third Avenue, Phoenixville, PA  19460 or to the Luzerne County SPCA, 524 Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA  18702.
