Marion E. (Mihalko) Horny

Marion E. (Mihalko) Horny, 86, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Marion was born in Exeter, the daughter of the late John (Jake) and Mary Shoemaker Mihalko. She was a graduate of Exeter High School. After high school, she was employed at Star Garment, Exeter as a seamstress. On October 27, 1962, she married her love, John. Soon after, Marion became a stay-at-home mom and homemaker the remainder of her years. She enjoyed Sunday family dinners, cooking for holidays and just being with her family. She was a member of the former St. Joseph’s Slovak Church where she enjoyed making pierogies and painting ceramics for the bazaars. After their closure, she became a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church, Wilkes-Barre.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Horny in 1999; her 2 brothers, Edward (Duke) Mihalko and John (Crano) Mihalko.

Surviving are her children, Theresa Youkoski, Bear Creek; Joseph Hurn and his wife, Renee, Mountain Top; Paul Hurn and his wife, Kathy, Trucksville; Donna Kugler and her husband, Bob, Shavertown; grandchildren, Jenna Youkoski (whom she helped raise) and her fiance, David Siley; Joseph Hurn; Bryanna Hurn; Paul Hurn Jr.; Allyson Kugler and Bradley Kugler; brother, Daniel Mihalko, Exeter; brother-in- law, Elmer Petlock, Bear Creek; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marion’s family would like to express their gratitude to family, friends, and neighbors for their love and support over the years.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church, 134 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
