Mary Austin Hannon

Mary A. Hannon, 91, a native of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

 

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Cunningham Austin, and was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church of the Immaculate Conception (Our Lady of Fatima Parish).  Mary married Edward Hannon on April 19, 1952, and after Edward’s untimely death, she cared for her widowed father for many years at the family homestead.

 

After suffering a stroke, Mary spent her final years in the care of the staff of Little Flower Manor/ Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing, where she was an appreciative patient and an avid bingo player.

 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Thomas, Michael and James, and by her sisters Aileen Heck, Margaret Eckert, Sister Anne Marie, RSM., Theresa Lyons and Collette Bergstrasser.

 

Surviving are her daughter, Anne Marie Kilgore and her husband Robert, Malvern, PA; her son Edward Hannon and his wife Kathy, Moneta, VA; her sister Betty McEvoy and her husband Vince, Laurel, MD; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

 

May she rest in peace with the Lord and remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 9 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 am in St. Mary’s Church of the Immaculate Conception (Our Lady of Fatima Parish), 134 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.

 

Friends may call from 8-9 am on Friday at the funeral home.
