Mary Brostoski

Mary Brostoski, 86, of Wilkes-Barre passed away peacefully Monday, December 7, 2020 in Shavertown at her daughter, Katherine’s, home surrounded by love, care and prayers.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre a daughter of the late John and Margaret (“Peg Peg Peg”) Hogrebe. Mary graduated from G.A.R. Memorial High School in 1952. After being a devoted full-time mother for over 20 years, Mary worked until she was 70 at Commission on Economic Opportunity and was the supervisor of the Winterization Program.  Later she “Paid it Forward” delivering Meals on Wheels, an organization near and dear to her heart for assisting her own family in the 70s.

She was preceded in death by her son Michael Brostoski in 2018 and by her loving companion Don Marx in 2019.

She leaves, to cherish her memory, her children: Mary Lynn Nestorick (Ray), Margaret Morgans, Jackie Covert (Jerry), Katherine Butruce (Dave), and John Brostoski; daughter-in-law, Dawn Brostoski; sister, Fran Falkowski, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a niece and nephew.  Her family was her life, her pride and joy. She will be missed deeply and will hold a special place in everyone’s life that she touched.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM from St. Andrew Parish, 316 Parrish Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call at St. Andrew Parish on Saturday from 9-10 AM.

Those who are attending the visitation and funeral services are required to wear a mask and abide by the state social distancing requirements.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.
