Mary C. Risko

Mary C. Risko, 93, of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020, at Riverstreet Manor in Wilkes-Barre.


She was born in Wilkes-Barre Township, a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Washington Heiser.  Mary was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School.  She was formerly employed at Penn State Belt & Buckle in Wilkes-Barre Township and later at the RCA Corp. in Mountain Top.


She was a member of St. Andre Bessett Parish in Wilkes-Barre.  Prior to its closing, Mary had been a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Monastery in Wilkes-Barre Township for many years.


Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.  She also had a great love of animals.


She was preceded in death by her husband, John Risko, in 2009.  She was also preceded in death by her son, William Risko; great grandson, Zarek Yerger and by her brothers, Andrew, Joseph and John Heiser.


Mary is survived by her daughter, Rose Burridge and her husband, Dennis, Wilkes-Barre; son, John J. Risko and his wife, Ann, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Christine Yerger, Melissa Burridge, Amy Risko and her husband, Greg Sinn, John Risko and his wife, Taylor and Thomas Risko and his girlfriend, Andrea; great grandchildren, Avagail Yerger, Aiden Burridge and Owen John Risko; sister, Anna Katarsky, Wilkes-Barre; and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 10:30 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 am in St. Andre Bessette Parish, 668 N. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.


Those attending the visitation at the funeral home and funeral mass are required to wear a mask and abide by the CDC and state social distancing requirements.


Friends may call on Monday from 9:30 – 10:30 am at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s name to the S.P,C.A. of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA  18702.
