Obituaries » Mary D. Smith April 11, 2023 Mary D. Smith April 11, 2023 Mary D. Smith, 95, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing in Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by her loving family. She was born, September 19, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Franklin and Marie Rollman Dougher. Mary was a 1945 graduate and salutatorian of St. Nicholas High School, Class of 1945, Wilkes-Barre. She was employed for her entire career the Social Security Administration in Wilkes-Barre. Mary was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-two years, Carlos A. (Bud) Smith Sr. in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Schwartz and brothers, Franklin, Joseph and Thomas Dougher. Mary is survived by her son, Carlos A. (Bud) Smith Jr. and his wife, Marion, Shavertown and by her granddaughters, Colleen Kuderka and her husband, John, Vernon, PA and Maureen Hornlein and her husband, John, Dallas, PA; great grandchildren, Sarah and John Kuderka and Lyndsey and Sydney Hornlein. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Maureen Dougher and Ann Dougher both of Wilkes-Barre; brother-in-law, Ralph Schwartz, Hanover Township; and by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Patrick Kerrigan, the staff at Allied Center City, Allied Mead Street Skilled Nursing and Allied Hospice Care for their compassionate and exceptional care. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:30 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am in St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
