Mercedes H. Flynn

Mercedes H. Flynn, 80, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at her home.


She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Edward and Martina Kratz Harrity.  Mercedes was a graduate of St. Nicholas High School and Luzerne County Community College.


She was employed for many years as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration, retiring in 1997.  Mercedes was a member of St. Nicholas Church in Wilkes-Barre.  She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.


She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. “Dubby” Flynn in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Edward Harrity and her brothers-in-law, Robert Zimmerman , Joseph Helfrich and William “Doc” Helfrich and sister-in-law, Margaret Helfrich.


Surviving is her son, Edward J. Flynn, Ashley; sisters, Monica Zimmerman, Annandale, VA and Martikay “Honey” Gola and her husband, Joseph, Mountain Top; nieces and nephews, Martina Conroy and her husband, Martin, Robert Zimmerman and his wife, Tracy, Joseph Gola and his wife, JoAnn and Martikay Gola; and several great nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 9:30 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am in St. Nicholas Church, 226 South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.


Friends may call from 4 – 7 pm Thursday at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
