Michael Demko

Michael Demko, 97, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022, in the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

 

Mickey was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Louis Sr. and Tatianna Prestash Demko. He attended Wilkes-Barre Township High School. Mickey was employed as a plumbing and heating contractor by R.A. Davis, Schonfeld Heating, and Carpinet Plumbing & Heating. After retirement, Mickey worked at SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church as the custodian.

 

Mickey served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre. Mickey enjoyed making Pysanky (Ukrainian decorated eggs) and doing puzzles.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Nicholas, John, Martin, Steve, and Louis Demko Jr.; sisters, Catherine Mackiewicz, Ann Motividlak, Helene Cain, Sonia Bruch, and Mary Napolsky.

 

Surviving is his wife of 70 years, Dolores Sisco Demko; children, Cathy Demko Jankouskas and her husband, Phil, Cape Coral, Florida; Michael G. Demko and his wife, Jacqueline Sunder Demko, Mountain Top; and Robert Demko, Pleasantville, New Jersey; granddaughters, Stephanie Demko Ashford and her husband, Sean, Manchaca, Texas; and Michelle Demko, Shreveport, Louisiana; great granddaughter, Eleanor Ashford; nieces and nephews.

 

Divine Liturgy will be held on Thursday at 10 am in SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 635 N. River Street, Wilkes­-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Dallas.

 

Family and friends may call on Thursday from 9-10 am at the church. Parking is available in the church lot off of Chestnut Street.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 635 N. River Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705.
