Michael J. Swortz Jr.

Michael J. Swortz Jr., 73, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Highland Manor Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Exeter.

 

Michael was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Michael J. Sr. and Edith Reh Swortz. He was a graduate of St. Nicholas High School, class of 1967 and Kings College, class of 1971. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 40 years by Amtrak. Michael was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Vane Sturts Swortz, in 2021.

 

Surviving are his step daughters, Karen Ridges and her husband, Michael, Freeport, IL; Wendy Miller Webb, Mullicha Hill, NJ; three step grandchildren, Lauren Shockey and her husband, Mark, Boise, ID; Alyssa Maietta, Philadelphia; and Christopher Maietta, Colorado; seven step great grandchildren; sister, Susan Baker and her husband, Carl, Plains; and several cousins.

 

Michael’s family would like to thank Complete Care at Riverview Ridge, where he was a resident for the past year. Their kindness, patience and compassion will never be forgotten.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 10 am in St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Private interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Huntington Valley, PA.

 

Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 9-10 am at the church.

 

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 53 Glenmara National Blvd., Suite 120, Moosic, PA  18407.
