Nancy L. Gittens

Nancy L. Gittens, 81, of Ashley passed away peacefully on Monday April 17th, 2023.

 

Born on August 17th, 1941, she was daughter of the late Nancy and Elmer Casterline. Nancy graduated from Ashley High School in 1959 and would go on to become a real estate broker through Charles Wood and Company for thirty years.

 

A devoted Sunday school teacher at the Centenary United Methodist Church, she was an accomplished seamstress and patternmaker for the Villager and LadyBug Company, and a proud cast member of The Molly McGuire Movie.

 

Nancy was preceded in death by her mother and father, Nancy and Elmer Casterline; her husband, James Gittens; her brothers, Darryl and David Casterline; her niece, Sharon Yanulevius, and her brothers in law, Frank Yanulevius and George Swan.

 

Nancy is survived by her children, James Gittens, David Gittens and his, wife Regina, Sean Gittens and his wife, Stephanie, Jeffery Gittens and Nancy Gittens; her sisters, Jenys Swan, Sharon Yanulevius, Holly Colleran and her husband, Luke and Cindy DeSanto and her husband Angelo; her grandchildren Matthew, Kahle, Madison, Lauren, Jessica, Collin, and Murphy; and her great-grandchildren Mason, Adeline, and Levi; her companion, Robert Williams; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

 

Nancy was a strong woman, who showed unmatched pride and devotion to her family. She enjoyed most of all a good cup of tea with good company, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

 

Nancy’s children would like to thank the nurses and staff at Allied Services Center City Skilled Nursing for their compassionate care.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 noon from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.  Rev. Carol E. Coleman will officiate.  Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.

 

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
