Philip M. Policare

Philip M. Policare, 73, of Dallas, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in Celtic Hospice at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.


He was born in Pittston on October 8, 1944, a son of the late Frank and Susan Russo Policare.  Philip was employed for 45 years as a Social Director at the Cove Haven Resort in the Poconos.  “Honest Phil” spent most of his life making people happy in the Poconos, so much so that upon his retirement, a street was named after him.


He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dallas.  He was involved with the Special Olympics for many years and he helped set up their “Winter Olympics” program.


He is survived by his wife, Catherine Susan Grieshaber Policare and by his children, Emilia Policare, Dallas and Michael Policare, Scranton.  Philip is also survived by his brother, Michael Policare and his wife, Sandy, CO; sisters, Mary McFarland, Plains and Rose Watkins, West Pittston; and by 6 nephews.


Family and friends may call on Saturday from 2 – 6 pm at the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.  A private interment will be held in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pennsylvania Special Olympics, 2900 Southampton Road, Philadelphia, PA  19154 or to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 474 Yalick Road, Dallas, PA 18612.
