Phyllis Barbara Flynn

March 16, 2021

Phyllis B. Flynn, 87, of Wilkes-Barre passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre.

Phyllis was born in Wilkes-Barre, one of three daughters of the late Joseph Allen and Mary Sattoff Allen.  Phyllis graduated from Meyers High School.  She subsequently completed programs at the Empire Beauty School and secretarial school.

For nearly three decades, Phyllis worked as Executive Secretary for the Ardsley School District in New York, where she also was a member of the New York State Teacher’s Association.

Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who ferociously and unconditionally loved her family and treasured her many friends.  A strong, independent, and lionhearted person, with strong opinions and passionate beliefs, Phyllis lived life on her own terms.  She was an avid reader, expert knitter, Yahtzee aficionado, and adored her coloring books.  Over the years, she painstakingly knitted blankets for many people she knew and loved, in a unique color and pattern to match their personality, taking time and special care to get each one just right.  She was a special lady who was cherished by her family and friends, and will be sorely missed.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 67 years, John Flynn and by her sons, John Flynn and his wife, Alison of Briarcliff Manor, NY and Matt Flynn and his wife, Kathy of Hartsdale, NY.  Phyllis is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Hailey, Rachel, Sean, and Peter; sister, Judith Lavenburg of Mountain Top; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister, Helen Anstett, and her parents.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.
