December 1, 2022

Shirley M. Sulcoski, 92, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Birchwood Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family after a short illness.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on October 29, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Letha (Allen) and Anthony Miscavage.

Mrs. Sulcoski was a woman of great faith and a member of Calvary Bible Church for many years.

She was a graduate of Coughlin High School.  Through the years Shirley worked at Triangle Shoe Company, Boscov’s, Mercy Hospital and EdMediaTec Incorporated.  However, her true calling was as a nurturing and loving mother and grandmother.  She loved crossword puzzles, mystery novels, watching Jeopardy nightly and was always up for chocolate.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John W. Sulcoski, and her sister and best friend, Carol Snyder.

She is survived by her son, Michael Sulcoski and his wife Linda, Hanover Township and daughter Carol Sulcoski, Radnor.  She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Stephen and Michael Sulcoski and James, Nick and Grace Speranza.

In her later years, she was extremely blessed to have been cared for with great love and attentiveness by her family.  The family would also like to thank the employees of Birchwood for their kindness and excellent care during the final few weeks of her life.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 am from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.  Rev. Sam Garnett, pastor of the Calvary Bible Church, will officiate.  Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 2-4 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105-9959.
